Portable sensory space project

Earlier this month Sports Focus supported the Mount Alexander Shire Council by developing a portable sensory space.

The portable sensory space was utilised during their FLIP Festival, in the All-Abilities circus and parkour sessions which were held at the Castlemaine Circus. These 2 activities were specifically designed and developed for neurodivergent children and their families. The sessions were incredibly successful in participation numbers, and received really positive feedback.

The portable sensory space provided a safe, calming space full of toys, games, puzzles and activities to ignite different senses, and develop sensory-motor skills and cognitive skills. The space was set up away from the main activities, noise and disruption, and was utilised as required until the individual was ready to rejoin the group.

Portable sensory spaces can be incredibly beneficial to many different sport and active recreation activities by making them more inclusive, accessible and supportive, whilst also raising awareness of sensory sensitivities. Follow the link below to learn more.
