Multicultural communities embrace badminton and table tennis opportunity!
Last Saturday the 15th of March, over 60 participants from the local Karen community enjoyed trying badminton and table tennis in Eaglehawk!
The come and try session was a part of a broader initiative supported by Badminton Victoria and Table Tennis Victoria, aimed at encouraging multicultural communities in Bendigo to try badminton and table tennis in a fun and social environment.
Laura Bradley, Community Development and Partnership Lead at Sports Focus attended the session, stating “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying themselves and giving badminton and table tennis a try – the smiles on the participants faces said it all. We have 2 more come and try sessions remaining, and I am looking forward to seeing members from our local Indian, Filipino and Afghan communities also enjoying themselves.
Congratulations to Table Tennis Victoria and Badminton Victoria, along with the Bendigo Table Tennis Association and Bendigo Eaglehawk Badminton Association, on their commitment to cultural inclusion. I look forward to seeing many of the participants engaging in table tennis and badminton beyond the come and try sessions.”
Feedback from the participants was also found to be really positive, with some feedback stating “It would be great if this sort of event happened regularly for the community”, “Will there be more opportunity like this in the future?” and “I really enjoyed playing today. I usually didn’t have time to play”.
Well done to everyone involved, and a big thankyou to Bendigo Community Health Services for their ongoing support, and valuable efforts with engaging with the Karen community.
In the spirit of Cultural Diversity Week which is currently running from the 17th – 23rd of March, it is fantastic to see organisations coming together, to foster community connection and inclusion, whilst celebrating multiculturalism.
